NBI Locator Program Q&A

What does the service cost?

Web retailers pay NBI for each customer/installer match where the customer providers their email address and requests the installer’s contact information.  See the full terms and fees here.

Why should a web retailer pay to give NBI business?

NBI is acting as a facilitator working for the benefit of both the web retailer and installer – and it is right that both contribute towards the cost of the service.  We have made a significant investment in software and systems to ensure that the consumer is well served and actively manage the network to ensure it’s continued effectiveness.  The result is a service that works well for all parties, the web retailer, the installer and, most important, the customer.

What prevents installers selling to web site customers?

This is a major concern for all web retailers-- before they use the NBI Locator.  The web sites get full access to their survey results and so they can monitor who their customers are purchasing from and, to date, none of them regard this as a problem.  The steps we take to ensure that this is not an issue are:

* The terms that the applying installer accepts, expressly forbid their selling to the web retailer's customers

* During the recruiting interview, we emphasizes to the installer that they must not sell to our customers

* The Terms to which every customer agrees require that they use our service only to buy from the introducing web site

* If we become aware of an infringement, the installer is first warned, then eliminated from the network.

Because active management, over 60% of all installers that have worked in the NBI network have been removed from the for poor performance.  The result is a constantly improving standard of installers who follow NBI's rules.

Are web site customer details kept confidential?

Yes.  Our terms state “NBI will not sell window coverings to any customers that have utilized the Locator service from the Retailer’s site, or provide their e-mail addresses to any other vendors of window coverings”.

Are installers familiar with all products?

The NBI network is made up of window covering installers with an average of 18 years experience in the industry.  Currently 44% are Hunter Douglas certified.  However no installer can be familiar with all products and we expect web retailers to publish the specifications of their products on their web sites so that installers can check if needed.  Also, NBI currently only works with blinds and shades, which reduces the range of knowledge needed.
